 The California Smog Check program is designed to identify vehicles, which are polluters through the use of a state of the art exhaust gas analyzer. The exhaust analyzer is much like a photo camera except it takes pictures of your vehicle's exhaust and translates that into information which an Ayers smog technician can read/understand and evaluate. Based on this information we can diagnose your vehicle's engine condition. Smog Inspections are not to be feared. It's simply an inspection designed to make sure your car is in good running order. It's also an excellent opportunity for you to evaluate your vehicle's engine performance and make sure your car is running at optimum levels. Maztech will explain any questions you may have. >  During the visual portion of the inspection we will be looking for the presence and proper connection of several required, emission components. These components are designed to reduce engine emissions. Among these are vacuum hoses and / or any pipe or plumbing which would effect engine performance and emissions. All emissions components including the EGR valve and "Check Engine" light are verified for functionality. The EGR valve is inspected for functionality anytime a vehicle undergoes a California's smog test including the "enhanced" smog test which utilizes a Dynomometer. The "Check Engine" light is inspected on all vehicles which are equipped with one. California Smog Check Program measures Carbon Monoxide (CO) and other pollutants that cause ozone: Hydrocarbons (HC) and (NOx), whereas the previous smog check program measured only HC and CO. Hydrocarbon emissions from vehicles are created by exhaust from the tailpipe, evaporative emissions from faulty gas caps, and from fuel system leaks. HC and NOx also react with other chemicals in the atmosphere to form inhalable particulate matter. Both of these pollutants cause or exacerbate lung disease. Implementation of the Smog Check Program is an important strategy to protect public health through air quality improvement by reducing vehicle emissions. |
